This is a real photo of our family’s kitchen in Guanajuato, Mexico. The kitchen was completely separate from the house — you had to climb down a dirt path to reach this little room built just for cooking. Inside, this door led in and out of the kitchen, and the slab of cement on the wall was the only “shelf” they had to place things.

Guadalupe Maya and Luis Maya were born and raised in Guanajuato. They married, raised six children, and worked hard to provide for their family. With very little, they built a life — selling tostadas and other foods from this humble kitchen.

It was here that Guadalupe taught her children how to cook the traditional recipes that are now the heart of Maya’s. Years later, her son, Miguel Maya, saved enough to purchase a taco truck. With the help of his brothers and sisters, he brought those recipes to the community, working tirelessly to grow from those beginnings.

Today, Miguel has passed down that same work ethic and those same flavors to his own children. Maya’s Authentic Mexican Food in Davis, CA is proud to be the third location — a dream that began in that small kitchen in Guanajuato, now shared with our community.
